My net connection is always broadband and never pay-by-the-megabyte,
so I don't much care if we always have full diffs... but there are
those who are more concerned about data transfer, I think, or at
least I remember tales of such folks my mother told me in days of old
to scare me into behaving.

In any case, the diff of a merge of someone who made the mistake of
committing after a long time away from pull/update and then wanted to
merge to head could be huge so far as I can tell... so a cap of some
sort (1 MB?) might still make sense.
