That sounds like a vote of support, then. The status icon is
considerably smaller. Where, with full sized icons, I can only fit 2
conversations in that sized windows, and with no icons I can fit 5,
with these small icons, I can fit 4.

This one isn't actually a space-saving measure, as the ellipsization
takes care of truncating better than I could. This is just because I
prefer seeing:

Sean  | Evan     | Erin  | John  |

to

Sean E... | Evan Scho... | Erin Eg... | John M...

I find it more readable..

Talking with Richard, earlier, it seems it might be best to do:
if it's a buddy truncate it if it's an alias, and the truncation is
unambiguous across the entire buddy list.

If it's a chat, truncate it if it's an alias.
