Note that "Ka-Hi...", with space-truncation, would become the far
superior "Ka-Hing", as 'ng' fits where the '...' would have occupied
space.  I've tried to explain this to Ka-Hing on several occasions.

I have to assume that the problem here is that you're doing truncation
before ellipsization would have kicked in, is that possible?  I can
see no other reason for Ka-Hing to ever have complained.
