Peering at the Openfire svn log, I can confirm that the Openfire
workaround for this (r9056) made it into all 3.4.x releases.

(On a similar note, 3.4.x also fixes the need to specify an "authz name"
for GSSAPI authentication, which was preventing Pidgin from successfully
authenticating with GSSAPI to an Openfire 3.3.x server.)
