Plans about audio and video chat

I would like to know if are there any plans about integrating into pidgin
audio and video calls.
I ask this because i have a project for my voip university class and i would
like to help in development.
I know that telepathy is going to be an important piece of future gnome so
why not use this framework in order to provide sip and xmpp audio and video
call?
What do you think about new project such as empathy , banter (by novell with
mono) or soylent?
Do you think thay have some good idea?
