Skinning WAS Change the Green Online Icon to an Icon reflecting the IM Protocol?

I'm against Pidgin theming, that is: through an internal theme engine.
GTK and the window manager are perfect for theming, maybe the system can
be forced to use a particular theme? I remember there was a plugin that
used a custom GTK theme.

Funny though, that Linux is constantly attacked for it's visual
inconsistency. (Doom scenario:
