I want to point out that I think your definition of "Theme" also
differs wildly from the typical "Skin" definition. Adium allows for
*very* limited changes to the UI, with the single exception of the
stylesheets in the conversation window. All Adium buddy list themes,
for example, look almost identical aside from limited changes to
colors and transparency. This is not something which bothers us, and
in fact it is simple to achieve by way of Gtk+ themes.

Basically everything which can be "Themed" in Adium can be changed in
Pidgin, with the exception of conversation styles. This includes
the look of the windows (insofar as the look of Adium buddy list etc.
can be changed, but also including preferences and other dialogs),
emoticon sets, status icons, sounds, etc. We cannot support
translucency, of course, but that is a limitation of the windowing
toolkit.

Pidgin users can make Pidgin just as ugly as the abominations on
adiumxtras.com, never fear. ;-)
