Best IDE for protocol plugin

It is a popular misconception among IDE users that programmers' editor
features which have been around for many years, but have only recently
showed up in IDEs, were invented for IDEs.  I am sure vim can do some
sort of autocompletion, and Emacs has *several* completion modes.
