I think it would be a little easier to cross-compile to some of the 
more conventional DSPs like MIPS and ARM. There are indeed 
some residual issues like why I couldn't get plugin support to
build and why I had trouble with a few protocols, and I also had
trouble trying for a true "static" binary where I didn't have to
populate my board's ROMFS with all the libraries.

Some of my worst headaches came from the dependent libraries.

The footprint is still too big (around 10Mb) for a text based IM client.
I may want to readdress the static build issue(s) or look at other
possible ways to reduce the executable footprint.

perhaps compiling it for different platforms could uncover
