HELP PLEASE!!!!

I need help and didn't know where else to go. I installed Pidgin and added
my buddies. Pidgin says all my buddies are offline and won't let me IM any
of them, when I know for a fact that they are not all offline and I should
be able to see which of my buddies is available, away, etc. Any help would
