d-bus and changing buddy icon

I've been messing around trying to make a script in python which changes
my buddy icon grabbing my album art from amarok,
On the dbus how-to (http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/DbusHowto)
it has this function PurpleAccountSetBuddyIconPath(account, path)
but I've tried this and nothing happens
I've read through the source code and from what I've read it's anything
but straight forward
I would actually prefer to change the global buddy icon if that's possible
form what I gather is that d-bus lacks the ability to change buddy icon,
am I correct?
