How to debug Pidgin

Did you read http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/BuildingWinPidgin and did 
you follow the mentioned steps?

In general I'd guess setting up a Pidgin build-environment under Linux 
might be somewhat easier than under Windows. But I may be wrong, as I've 
never set up such build environment!
