I haven't heard any explanation of why there's something really wrong
with using the status message for the MSN personal status message - it
is the logical mapping for that field within the libpurple structure.
The only issues that I see are related to the behavior when changing
statuses (which are arguably UI issues that affect all status
messages, not just the MSN ones). I think the only reason that it
appears more problematic for this case is because of how people have
tended to use these messages on the MSN network - if people tended to
similar things on AIM or XMPP, they'd have the same complaints about
the message behavior when the status is changed.
I don't see the fact that the MSN PSM isn't tied to a particular
status as a problem at all with how it works currently. Just because
it is different from how the native client works doesn't make it a bad
thing.
