Protect Password

I modified a local build to protect the password in the account.xml file.
I tried to do this in a plugin, I ran into some issues.
The plugin seems to load after some of the critical accounts/connection events.
The asynchronous flushing also caused me difficulty.
I'd like to be able to hook I/O or the connection logic so I can control encryption/decryption from a plugin.
Is this already possible or should I make a formal wish request?
Regards,
Dave
