This is true.

Clearly[1], I'd rather the devs spend their copious free time at the 
network level helping fix the well known problem of the attack 
surface[s] with pidgin/libpurple. I can't help but think by making that 
safe, a threadsafe libpurple would (at least in theory) be even safer 
from attack and consequences thereof. Also, the flow on effects to other 
projects would be highly beneficial.[2]
