Guidance for newbies

Hi.

I am Shantanu, a Computer Science undergraduate student at IIT Madras,
India. I and a few of my classmates (cc-d here) from a Software Engineering
class are required to work on a well-known free software, for which we
would like to work on Pidgin.

Our major objective is to be able to add non-trivial enhancements to the
software, for which we hope the Pidgin community can guide us a bit. We saw
a list of project ideas here :

Is it possible to take one of them up for a month-long project (for a group
of 6)?
