Pidgin/finch fails to build against ncurses 6.0 (bug #16764)

Could someone from the devs please look at this bug report?

#16764: Pidgin/finch fails to build against ncurses 6.0 with
WINDOW_OPAQUE set to 1

The bug is open since 9 months. More and more distributions use Ncurses
6.0. Finch does not build without a patch. Since I can not find an
option to disable the build of Finch, Pidgin build also fails.
