Whoops, please excuse my previous email. I had confused this problem with another bug in Pidgin/libpurple (I think we decided that this particular issue doesn't affect us because we don't use OpenSSL because it's license is incompatible with ours). I don't know the status of whether Tomasz has contacted the libgg authors about this.
