Issue: Loud beep when scrolling

When I attempt to navigate beyond the items available on a list (e.g. hold
down the arrow-up key in the list of buddies until the highlight goes to the
first item, then continue to hold) I get an ear-splitting series of beeps.
I've turned off all sounds but still get it.
