changing the status using an external app

Hi,
i'm quit new to pidgin and i'm searching a way to set the statut of 
pidgin from the outside.

Let say from a shell script
- set the status to "watching a movie"
- launch VLC
- set the status to available

I'm not searching to display the name of the currently played song or 
movie, juste a way to say "don't disturb me".

After some googling i found some webpages talking about gaim-remote and 
pidgin-remote but can't find any information on theses utils.
