ignoring images in conversation

Hello. Sometimes, when talking to MSN Messenger users, certain words
seem to be replaced by images that appear inline on the conversation
window. Conversation logs in text mode show the words instead of the
images. These images are sometimes quite anoying, and I can't find a
way to disable them (show the words instead of the images, just like
the text log), is it possible?

I'm using Pidgin 2.4.1 on Linux.
