how to activate Finch ?

Entering "finch" within a terminal should start the application. If not 
you should definitely provide more informations like: What OS are you 
running, what version of Pidgin/Finch do you have installed, how did you 
install it (distribution package or compiled for yourself), configure 
flags if compiled for yourself, etc pp.
