[Question #42619]: Sound and notification problems

New question #42619 on pidgin in ubuntu:

I'm running Pidgin, and have sounds enabled and the general sound is not muted, but I don't get any sounds when I receive messages.  Is there any way to set the window to flash in the taskbar when I receive a message, so I won't sit there accidentally ignoring someone?
