Duplicate contacts

Hi. I use windows live hotmail. I have groups in my contacts.

Personal and family. Some contacts I have in both. They show up under both
groups in Pidgin. If I try and merge them pidgin removes one from one of my
hotmail groups which I don't want. Does anyone else experience this?
