Possibility to fake client information?

Hello,

Is there a way to modify (read: fake) the client information sent out to a
(xmpp) chat server?
I guess this is the same as requesting how to modify the client information
displayed in the Buddy Information (eg. 'Pidgin x.x.x' ).
