google talk question

hello,

i have been using pidgin at home to connect to google talk
when i take my notebook to work pidgin does not connect
but at work google talk itself works fine, the network admin says that
there is no program firewall, so it shouldnt be getting blocked
because it is an unknown program... he may be mistaken, but is there
anything else that it could be?
i get the "unkown error" message when connection fails.
