How to retrieve status messages on request?

Dear mailing list community,

is it possible to make status messages requests? With Miranda IM on
Windows for example you can right-click an ICQ buddy and hit "Request
Status message" and then the Away/NA/whatever-message of the buddy gets
displayed. Pidgin actually needs a while until the most recent changes
are displayed (for instance if a buddy changes his/her status and I want
to look up the status notice it takes about 5 minutes until the current
status of the buddy is displayed).
I use Pidgin 2.4.0 (installed with aptitude out of the
lenny/testing-tree of Debian GNU/Linux running with Kernel 2.6.22)
