There is a ticket about not being able to send messages when in Yahoo chat
rooms. But that doesn't sound to be related.
Do you use Pidgin on Windows?

If you think this is an issue with our software, you will need to provide us
with the debug log and packet capture.
The packet capture can be obtained using a software like wireshark.
For debug log, you can open the debug window (Help > Debug Window), and then
save the log to a file after you have experienced the problem, in this case
sending messages to a buddy.

It would be preferable if you file a ticket at
http://developer.pidgin.im/newticket, and provide us the log and capture.
Then a suitable developer can take a look at it.
