Persistent Chat Room

I have created a chat room and selected it's settings for:

. Auto join
. Persistent

When I open my client (2.5.8), I join the chat room and participate in conversations as desired. However, if I close the chat window and reenter, I lose all the history of conversations. This is inconsistent with the way the online documentation says a persistent chat should work (see below). Is this a know issue for this version client?

Can I still see messages in a chat if I close the window?

Yes. Pidgin has a persistent chat feature, where you will remain in a chat room even if you close the window. When you open the window again, all the messages that were sent are still there as if the window had been open the whole time.
To make a chat persistent, add it to your buddy list, then right click and choose "Persistent" from the context menu.
Sorry if this has already been asked but attempts to search the FAQ and bug tracking threw errors.
