Thanks for your note.  Yes, the chat conversation may have been there for awhile but when I close the conversation and open it right back up, I lost the history.

Are you closing the conversation and immediately re-opening it? (This works for me.) There's a timeout on persistent conversations. I believe it's 10 minutes. If you're expecting things to last across sessions, what you want is logging. Turn that on in the preferences.
