basic help

I've installed Pidgin, but don't understand the basic functionality, so I
feel like the User Guide and FAQs are starting at "G" instead of "A".
Terms are unfamiliar to me, so when it says things like "user protocol" I
don't know what that means.  Is there a "Pidgin for Dummies" here
somewhere?

 

I've worked with Yahoo IM successfully for years, but this is like a whole
different animal to me and my work is requiring it!
