Direct IM Images not showing in chat window

[Lunar Sound Design]

I am using the latest version of pidgin in Windows XP (previous versions 
had the same problem) and when I try to send in image in  a chat window 
the other user can see it but it doesn't show up in my chat window.  
When that user trys to send an image to me it just shows up in the chat 
window like they didn't type any text.  This problem is consistent for 
when connected to a mac using AIM via ichat and a PC using AIM. 

I've tried just about everything and can't resolve this issue.. Please help.
