pidgin sound problems under fedora 10

Hi there. The sound problems continue despite updating everything.
That is, if I am watching a movie or playing music, and pidgin needs
to make a sound, it dies (it stops updating its windows and Gnome
gives the option to Wait or Kill it).. 

I now mute the sound when I play something, but it's dangerous, because
I sometimes forger to turn it off..

What do you recommend I do?
