So Pidgin itself is completely disappearing? Upgrade to Pidgin 2.5.8,
the most recent release, and then, if the problem persists, follow the
instructions at http://pidgin.im/gdb.php to get a backtrace.

You need to upgrade to Pidgin 2.5.8, which contains critical fixes to
update Pidgin to use a new Yahoo authentication method. Once done, read
http://tinyurl.com/pidgin-yahoo for more information (in particular, you
need to change the Pager Server).
