create Room and Chart using libpurple, where to start?

Hi, I am a programmer, i want to create a temporary room for muti kind of
user(like MSN,Gtalk...) to chart together in my program, i found pidgin has
this function,  and i download the source, but that's a big project, i just
need to know how to use libpurple to achive this function. Could some one
tell me where to start？ My time is very tight..., thinks ! thinks!
