buddys vanished, nowhere to be found again

hi guys,

half of my buddys have vanished, i regrouped them and they were still there. after i restarted pidgin, half of them disappeared. not only from pidgin but also from icq. i searched the faq and found the missing buddy entry, but they were not to be found again. any ideas?
