Which platform are you using Pidgin on?

You'll need to install the correct spell checker and dictionary packages
if you are using Linux, or install Aspell and dictionaries if you're
using Windows. IIRC, the latest Aspell doesn't work properly with
Pidgin on Windows, I think you need to find 0.50.3 to make it do so.

Then once installed you'll need to find the correct preferences and
turn spell checking on, it should be under the Conversations tab.
