Pidgin and Skype protocol

Skype is probably not going to release their protocol. Both the protocol
and the official client are heavily encrypted and obfuscated because
Skype wants to discourage reverse-engineering.

I am afraid that Skype will not open their protocol before AIM, ICQ, MSN
and Yahoo have switched to XMPP.

I am quite certain that in the moment Skype will release 
specification of their protocol, somebody will make a plugin for 
pidgin ;-).
