Annoying pop-ups

Hi,

I'm using the most current version of pidgen and i'm on ubuntu 9.10. When i
am not in the messanger window and a friend of mine sends me a message i get
an annoying black box that tells me what my friends are saying. i don't want
this to happen. I will click inside the box when i'm ready to chat  i don't
want the conversation to pop up.

How can i disable this feature?
