compiling Pidgin on Debian Lenny

Hello there. 

I'm using Debian 5.01 Lenny and I wanna use the newest version of pidgin. In Lenny's software sources is just 2.4.3. How do I compile the newest version of Pidgin (2.6.6). All dependencies, which I could download the way it is mentioned on the homepage are the old ones (2.4.3) How can I get the dependencies of 2.6.6?
