Do you mean an untrusted certificate or do you mean a trusted 
certificate signed by an untrusted  CA, or itself?

I believe you can install a non-root certificate as trusted with OpenSSL 
or GnuTLS, although I'm not certain and I don't know what Pidgin uses on 
Windows.
