issue with pidgin combining similiar names on buddy list

The fist time I used pidgin, if I added two names under the same alias, pidgin asked me if i wanted to combine them into one buddy list entry. It still prompts me to do this, but when i click YES, it does not combine them.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck.

Anyone know a trick around this?
