XMPP Connection

I've installed Pidgin on a few computers for some friends and family
members I help out. They all use Google Talks server, and I use
Empathy 2.28.1 in Ubuntu. Recently, they've all disappeared, and they
haven't changed a thing as I'm aware. Does Pidgin nag for updates in
Windows, that they might have clicked out of obedience, or is it
possible that Google has changed something that causes these problems?
