The deciding factor is whether or not they use the same instant 
messaging service, not whether or not they use the same email provider.

At a guess you use Google's instant messaging and they use MSN, in which 
case the answer is no.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
