As Etan told you, this error does indicate that the client and server don't
have any overlapping supported TLS mechanisms.

If you could provide a packet capture and the server name (if it's public),
that would be helpful in knowing whether your copy of Pidgin is advertising
some artificially small set of ciphers, or the server is being odd.
