What is your company's IT department's attitude to the use of instant
messaging on the company's systems? Some consider it to risk time
wasting and the introduction of viruses and copyright violations, so
will actively seek to block it.
If they object to it, there is nothing that can be done.
If they are supportive of it, get their help to find out why your access
is being blocked.
If they are neutral, see if you can get some information on the firewall
policies.
