Turning off email notifications

I rather doubt that Pidgin is doing this.  I suspect it is the service 
you are using.  Look at the email headers.  I think you will find that 
email doesn't originate from your machine.

If it is, it will almost certainly be a plugin that you installed at 
some time in the past.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
