Pidgin doesn't run

Hello,
I've just installed the pidgin 2.8.0 update and now the program does run at
all. No windows pop up at all and it isn't running the background by the
looks of the Task manager processes tab. I have already tried uninstalling
and reinstalling still to no avail. I'm running Win7. Any hints on how to
make this work?
