Those are status icons not tabs. And they aren't the green circles because
either pidgin or GTK+ wasn't installed correctly. So either the image
icons themselves are missing or the bits of GTK+ that are used to render
the images is.

I would suggest attempting a reinstallation (with an eye out for any error
messages).
