Do you have an XMPP (jabber) account?

Have you added it to pidgin?

Do you have someone specific you would like to chat with?

Do you have their JID (jabber id, looks like an email address)?

Have you tried using that in pidgin either by adding it to the buddy list
or by using it in the Buddies->New Instant Message dialog?

Did you have trouble with any of those steps? Did you get an error message
anywhere?
